1. What is ozone?
Ozone is a colorless gas under normal temperature and very powerful oxidizing agent existing naturally in the environment we live. Unlike bleach or chlorine, it is perfectly safe and natural to be use as a cleanser or food disinfectant. It purifies the air, kills germs, removes odors and maintains the equilibrium of the nature.
2.What is ozone made of?
Ozone is made up of entirely oxygen, also known as "activated oxygen". It is composed of three atoms of oxygen (O3). The air we normally breathe is two atoms of oxygen (O2).
3.Where does ozone come from?
Ozone is all around us. Ozone is transformed from the oxygen molecules by the sun's ultraviolet light or through lightning strikes that occur during thunderstorms. Ozone is also created by water falls. In fact that "fresh, clean, spring rain" smells that we notice after a storm often results from nature's creation of ozone.
4.What is ozone water?
Ozone is sparingly soluble in water. In water there are two modes of action by ozone, direct oxidation and oxidation by hydroxyl free radicals. This oxidation reaction in water causes it to sterilize, kill bacterium, refreshe, whiten and deodorize. In water ozone decomposes rapidly and the only residual is dissolved oxygen.
5.How does ozone eliminate germs and odors?
Ozone is extremely active. When it encountered a bacteria, virus or fungi, it ruptures the cell of the micro-organism. When it is faced with a compound like odors and pesticides, the extra atom of oxygen consumes them completely by oxidation reactions. Instead of masking the effect of unpleasant odors, ozone destructs the odor causing compounds chemically. Thereafter, the rest of ozone naturally decays back into oxygen very quickly.
6.How strong is ozone?
Ozone is the second most powerful sterilant in the world. It performs 3000 times faster than chlorine as a bactericide, and the strongest oxidant commercially available for air and water treatment. Ozone while very powerful doesn't last long, just does its job and decays into oxygen.
7.Is ozone safe?
Ozone has been known for almost a century now, and quite a lot is known about it. When used correctly, like anything else, ozone is safe. A properly implemented and operated ozone system poses no health hazards at low level exposure. Ozone is much less a danger than regular household bleach and many other chemicals found in the average home. Ozone is approved by FDA for microbial treatment, ozone is used to purify drinking water, fresh produce and meat decontamination processing.
8.Will ozone pollute?
Ozone is a very natural occurring chemical compound in the environment. Due to ozone's chemical instability, ozone will immediately self-deoxidize to oxygen. In so doing, that extra atom of oxygen is destroyed and all is left is oxygen (O2). Unlike soap or chemical detergent, it leaves no harmful residue for pollution.
9.How long does ozone last?
Ozone is extremely instable and has a short life expectancy. It breaks up into oxygen in less than 30min. It is very susceptible to heat, thus once ozone water is boiled, ozone turns back into oxygen quickly. Ozone cannot be stored and must be generated on site.
10.How does this device work?
This device generates a safe level of ozone supplied though a silica tube to be dissolved in tap water. The mix occurs at the bee-hive filter mounted on the faucet adapter (included in the kit). A built-in electronic switch sensor automatically activates the production of ozone only when it detects the pressure of water flow.
11.Is this device safe with water?
Water does not flow into the device. It only supplies ozone gas into the faucet adapter to be soluble with the water. This device is compliant with ISO9001 and CE Safety certified.
12.Can hot water be used?
Hot water can certainly be used, although ozone decays back into oxygen much faster under hot water than the cold water.
13.Can the device be powered-on all the time?
The device only produces ozone when it detects a pressure of water flow. Hence it is auto-activated which could be left powered-on. The operating cost is very minimum, only 6 Watts of power usage during ozone production.
14.Is ventilation needed to exhaust the ozone?
This device generates a safe level of ozone to dissolve in water. The levels of ozone capable of producing sterilization effect in water appears low enough that natural decay, may be sufficient to render the surrounding air breathable without any vent filtration. A kitchen or an area with a natural air flow should do.
15.Would continuous usage cause ozone accumulation in the air?
The device has a built-in protection system feature to shut off the ozone production after 10 minutes of continuous use. This feature helps avoid excessive ozone accumulation in the surrounding air.
16.Is plumbing required to install this device?
No specialized tool or technique is required to install this device. Simply screw on the faucet adapter onto your existing water faucet. A standard kitchen faucet would have a screw on aerator head which can be removed easily. The faucet adapter is a special patented aerator head to evenly mix ozone gas into the running water. It comes with a male/female adapter. The device can be mounted onto the wall either by adhesive or screw.
17.How to maintain this device?
This device does not need filter replacement or chemical additives. Just simply maintain it by keeping it clean using a damp cloth. (Do not use any liquid chemical cleaners). The faucet adapter would sometime be blocked by the impurities from tap water, please dismantle the adapter from faucet to rinse aerator screen.
